Cinderella Wore Red

Living in the house in front of me is a very special woman I will call Cinderella. She is a loving, sociable person who thinks seriously about world events, sports, God, and his wishes for our lives.

Unfortunately, her life does not afford her many opportunities to share these thoughts. She is home alone all day, commissioned with the duties of taking out the dogs, cleaning out the litter box, doing dishes and scrubbing the tub. Unfortunately, after all these duties she cannot take a relaxing bath herself. She must have permission for that.

In the evening when her family comes home she stays upstairs because the only conversation and sharing she gets consists of shouted reprimands and blistering reminders that she is not able to take care of herself, that she had better do what she is told or she could be “sent to a nursing home” or that if she discusses the subjects outside the home that she is told not to she will no longer be allowed to attend church.

Then one day something very special happened. Cinderella got an invitation to the Prom. Even better, it came from Jesus. She was so excited about the “Jesus Prom”. She couldn’t wait. She told everyone at church about it for weeks.

One day, a friend took her to get her prom dress. Cinderella picked a beautiful gown, most appropriate for the glorious and long-awaited event.
