Reflection of a Fool

I’m sitting here waiting for you to drag in.
And I’ve got it planned just what to say.
I practiced for an hour
Talking to a mirror.
Tonight I stop living this way.

Early in the morning you’ll stagger in.
When you see me you’ll stop, then slump.
I’ll rise from my chair
Walk to where you are
Once more I’ll pour my love out on a drunk.

Try, try again. It sounds like a nursery rhyme.
It pushes the other thoughts from my head.
I’ll love you tonight
Although I know its not right
And tomorrow I’ll rehearse the words I never said.

I swear the next time will be the end.
But you know I’ll pick you up each time you fall.
Cause I remember years ago.
You’re not the same you know.
Why can’t I talk to you like the mirror in the hall.

Sitting here crying, I hear your keys drop at the door.
And once again, I know what I’ll do.
As I run through the hall
To answer your call
The mirror just reflects me as a fool.

A messed up person in a messed up world fighting to find which came first--the chicken or the egg? Thanks to @FloTography on Flickr.
