Where Has the Love Gone?

Where has the love gone?
Where is the loved one?
Was it only imagined
Or was the feeling real?

Your love was depending
But my love was ending,
Smothered by demands
And harsh reality.

Beating, berating,
Defeating, forsaking.
You were always the winner
But you cheated at the game.

Your words were of justice
And your betrayed beginnings.
You suffered for the ages
And placed on me the blame.

I answered for the wrongs you found.
I was the cursed one.
I suffered through the rages
Then soothed you in my arms.

I guess I had my reasons too
A sort of fairness rule
That said if I extend myself
He won’t react so cruel.

When I was understanding
Of a problem that you told
You shared the time withstanding
And deigned to bear your soul.

But when the times were bad for me
There were no shared heart rending.
My problems brought no pain to you
And you no more depending.
